Blue Dot Solutions, the HATCH project coordinator from Poland
Blue Dot Solutions is the HATCH project coordinator. The company is based in Poland and was founded in 2014. It is the first Polish company operating in the downstream part of the space sector that has received venture capital investment. The company is also an active member of the Polish Space Industry Association.
Our vision is to become one of the most important European providers of information based on satellite data. This “information” can be provided in any form suitable for users/customers.
“We develop our own products and services utilising satellite data. We create our own electronic and software solutions and provide various services – analytical, consulting, etc. While we focus mostly on the ‘downstream’ aspects of the sector, we are working hard on developing our ‘upstream’ competences as well.”
Krzysztof Kanawka, CEO of Blue Dot Solutions
The Kosmonauta.net project
Since 2009 the Blue Dot Solutions team has also run a website, Kosmonauta.net, which is an independent media company today but years ago was the starting point for Blue Dot Solutions’ technological projects. Kosmonauta.net contains around 9 thousand articles about the space industry, science, policy, impact, etc. published in English and translated into Polish. The website has around 80 000 readers per month and is therefore among the leading space media in Poland.
Satellite data applications are just now beginning to “boom” in Europe. This means that many recipients who would benefit from satellite data are not yet convinced or aware of its benefits. This is a challenge that our team faces almost every day.
As Blue Dot Solutions is located in Poland, a country which only recently started its own space industry, our (joint) experience in the space sector is relatively light. Working in the HATCH consortium means a “fast and steep learning curve” for us as well.
The Blue Dot Solutions team has a wide range of skills and competences relevant to the sector, such as a good command of GNSS, EO, AI and server data, as well as the business skills needed to run a company and coordinate a project. The team also has an understanding of the European space sector and the direction it is taking, which is very important for the HATCH project.
We aim to be one of the leaders in several space data-related fields, such as GNSS, earth observation and general data related to the space sector. At the moment we are participating in or conducting several projects related to the use of Galileo satellites and the Copernicus Programme, especially for topics such as IoT, aviation and smart cities.
